Out on a Limb is Olympia's annual venue for experimental dance. Work will be curated by members of RADCO, the Random Acts of Dance Collective. The show will take place on Friday and Saturday, April 7 and 8, 2017, at Olympia Family Theater (OFT), 612 4th Ave E, Olympia. RADCO is open to considering any performance work 12 minutes in length or less, centered around movement of the human body. Submissions should be outside conventional forms of ballet, jazz, tap, ballroom or folk dance, though of course material from any of these traditions might be incorporated, referenced or repurposed in your work! Uniquely physical approaches to musicmaking are also encouraged. Work may be improvisational or choreographed. Out on a Limb is utilizing OFT’s facility but is not a part of OFT programming; there is no specific need for submitted work to be child-friendly.
If you would like to apply use the online form below, or if you wish fill in this paper form and follow the included instructions for submitting it. Either way, you must submit the application on or before Friday, February 3, 2017. You do not need to know everything about your piece at this time, just offer your best guesses. Please note that In the selection process, artists who did not present in the prior year’s Out on a Limb are given higher priority than those who did. |
Performance space dimensions can be downloaded here. OFT uses a semi-permanent backdrop each season. The photo below shows the backdrop in preparation for the January 27 - February 12 production Starry Messenger. During Out on a Limb the backdrop will be physically unchanged, but will be painted with artwork from the production of Alice in Wonderland taking place immediately prior to Out on a Limb -- most likely large botanical images. We will have some capacity to de-emphasize the backdrop with lighting or partial covering, but you are more than welcome to work with it as a site specific element if you wish.
